love and other impossible pursuits / ayelet waldman

it is not difficult to picture this as a movie. the plot, the scenery, the people. I want to go back to New York again and do it right. Central Park…

children really are just smaller human beings. You can like some, you can not like some, you can even hate some. Same way you do with humans. yes, parents love their children. they’re supposed to. but what if your child is of the exact temperament of someone you don’t like? an impossible question?

Loving someone is hard enough. having to also love their child is doubly hard. What would it be about the child that you love? just because the child is related to the one you love? people fall in love and they also break up, divorce… so how about love towards a child? i should think all of this is impossible to put together.

when reading this, i didn’t think about all of these. I just read and enjoyed the book. By its very movie-like feel i already knew it was going to have a happy ending. It was about how the happiness was going to be achieved.
